William Nelson Brown, 82, of Glenwood, IL, was called home to rest on January 3, 2020 in Munster, IN.
He was born January 14, 1937 in Louisville, MS to Robert and Cannie Brown. He moved to Chicago at age 15 and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School. He was married for 52 years to the love of his life, Willa Mae Brown. William retired in 1997 from Chicago Transit Authority, after 29 years as a Motorman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Cannie Brown; brother, Willie Brown; and daughter, Eraina Simpson.
William, affectionately known as “Fat Daddy” by his grandchildren and “Sonny Boy” by his family, was an avid Chicago Bears and Bulls fan. He also loved following the college and professional European basketball career of one of his grandsons. You could always count on him to give lots of advice on any subject that he was discussing. He loved working in his yard and listening to his old blues albums.
William is survived by his wife, Willa Mae Brown; sons, John (Gerry) Jones, Lloyd Jones; daughter, Benita Jones; sister, Pauline (Wilson) Davis; brother, Robert Brown, Jr.; beloved mother-in-law, Janie Jones and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
