Juanita Gratten Obituary

It was a joyous September day in 1931 when Mary Lee McWhorter and Matthew Sun Dan Evans introduced Juanita Evans to the world. She was the youngest out of five siblings, Lula Mae, Peter, Daniel and Abbie Doris.

Juanita (lovingly referred to as Sister) and her siblings were educated in the Taliaferro County, Georgia School System. She furthered her education at Georgia State College in Savannah, Georgia.

In the early 1950’s, Sister relocated to Chicago, Illinois where her brothers had migrated. She gained employment there; met and married Alfred Gratten. Two daughters were born to this union, Valeria and Althea D. Gratten. Juanita was employed until she retired.

Juanita dedicated her life to Jehovah on January 24, 1987. She symbolized her dedication through water baptism by becoming one of Jehovah Witnesses’s.

She always looked forward to an enjoyed attending her meetings. Juanita also enjoyed preaching and teaching to others about Jehovah. She enjoyed the Field Ministry with her friends, known as the Golden Girls, her spiritual sisters, and all those she had the privilege to work with.  Juanita also had a strong love for her family, sewing, and gardening. She was generous and happy to help others.

On Tuesday, May 4, 2020, Juanita fell asleep in death. Her parents, husband, brothers, sister (Abbie Doris), and daughter, Valeria preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Althea D. Williams (Olympia Fields, IL0; one sister, Lula Mae Combs (Crawfordville, Georgia); two step daughters, Patricia Levy and Latricia Gratten (Houston, TX); step grandchildren; her spiritual family; a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and friends; and almost 9 million spiritual brothers and sisters,
