Ruth Ann Hopkins was born on January 25, 1951 in Parkin, Arkansas to parents: Pearlie Mae and McKinley Hopkins. The Family relocated to Chicago, IL and Ruth accepted Christ at the early age of 10. She was baptized at New Nazareth Baptist Church under the late Rev. Hopkins. She later joined First Paradise Missionary Baptist Church in 1991 under the late Rev. Eddie H. Gardner. She would join her last church home, The Israel of God, in 2009, under the guidance of Pastor Buie.
Ruth graduated form Lindblom in 1969, and later, attended Roosevelt University where she studied Accounting. She was first employed by Illinois Bell, and later moved onto work in her field of study. She worked at various banks before she was forced to retire due to health problems.
After she regained her health, in 2000 she started and ran her own tax business, The Tax Lady Income Tax Service. She would run this business until she passed.
She married Gregory Jackson in 1981 and to this union one child, Gregory Jackson, Jr. was born. Ruth doted on her only son and they could be seen together all the time.
Ruth was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Bears. She was a dedicated fan win or lose. She was also a very giving person helping many kids around the neighborhood, and just people in general when and whenever she could.
On Monday, May 27, 2019 at 12:45 p.m., Ruth passed away peacefully after battling complications from a stroke.
Preceding her in death was her mother, Pearlie Mae; father McKinley Hopkins, Sr; and nephew Glenn Berry.
She leaves to cherish her memory, son: Gregory Jackson, Sr.; sister Helen Berry; brother McKinley, Jr.; aunts Peggie Steward, Mildred Hopkins, and Edna Hopkins; uncles Farmer Jr. (Edna), Leniel (Wendy) and Rodell (Wanda); niece Briana Lawrence; nephew Julian Fleminster; great-nephews: Jovan and Adrian and a host of other relatives and friends.
