Annie Mae Clark's Obituary
Annie Mae Clark Obituary
The earthly journey for Annie Mae Clark began in Shaw, Mississippi on August 19, 1931 to Lige and Beatrice Clark. Both parents proceeded her in death. Annie, sometimes called Mae, was the fourth child from this union. She graduated from Breisch High School in Leland, MS.
At a young age, Annie accepted Christ and was baptized at Pleasant Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Leland, Mississippi. Throughout her life she remained active in church and was a devoted member of Redeeming Love Apostolic Church in Matteson, IL.
Annie faithfully provided for her family and was employed by French Hand Laundry, Zenith and retired from Continental Bank. She had a strong work ethic and believed in being early for everything, especially work. Annie Mae was also known for her common-sense approach to life, independent spirit, her quick wit, colorful language, and many clichés. One of her favorite clichés was “just because you think it that doesn’t mean you have to say it.” Many sought out her counsel and she freely shared her wisdom.
Annie married Otis Rounds in 1951 and to this union four children were born: Otis Eugene, Byron, Dorothy, and Beryl Petreulia. Her hobbies were quilting, gardening and completing puzzles. In addition to her daily conversations with her sister Marjorie, Annie especially enjoyed traveling. In particular she loved cruising to the Caribbean, visiting the hot springs, touring the Big Island of Hawaii, and her cross-country trip by rail through Canada. Additionally, she regularly traveled to California taking grandchildren with her.
Annie quietly and peacefully transitioned out of this life on March 29, 2019 where she was surrounded by family and most importantly prayers. She was preceded in death by her parents: Lige and Beatrice, brothers Leon and Ernest, and sisters Dorothy, Jeanie, and Earnestine. Left to cherish her life are her children: Otis Rounds (Patricia) of El Sobrante, CA, Byron Rounds of Chicago, IL, Dorothy Rounds Clark of Chicago, IL, and Beryl Shingles (Homer) of Chicago, IL.; eight grandchildren: Antoine Higgins of San Jose, CA , Bahati Rounds of El Sobrante, CA, Ryan Rounds of Kalamazoo, MI, Kelli Nicolas (Marc) of Las Vegas, NV, Ariana Claton of Chicago, IL, Kamilah Rounds of Harvey, IL, Kanika Rounds of Richmond, CA, and Homer Shingles III of Chicago, IL; one great grandchild: Aroni Landeros of Richmond, CA; one sister: Marjorie Coffey (Charles) of Matteson, IL and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, cousins, family and friends.
