Barbara Christian Obituary
Barbara was born on January 17, 1941, in Chicago, IL; to the union of Manna and Norman Stanton, Sr. She was the fourth child in a sibship of five. The family moved to Robbins IL, where she attended Lincoln Memorial Elementary School; and graduated from Blue Island High School, later named Eisenhower High, in 1958.
Barbara accepted Christ as her Savior; she was baptized in June of 1948, at Great Hope Baptist Church, Robbins, IL. Following high school, she worked as a secretary for various organizations including Roosevelt University, the University of Chicago, and as a civilian for the U.S. Air Force. After earning degrees from Roosevelt University, and Governors State University, she taught elementary school; later she became a Reading Coordinator for the Chapter I Program in the District of 152. Following the loss of her health, she retired in 1988, due to her disability.
Prior to her illness, Barbara enjoyed traveling, reading, playing board games, and spending time with her family.
Barbara leaves to mourn: her daughter, Cynthia Christian-Elion; two grandchildren; Christen Mocha (Courtney), and Christopher Elion; her sister, Dorothy Lewis; and a host of other friends, and relatives.
