Bettie Neal's Obituary
Bettie Neal Obituary
Born in Natchez, Mississippi she was born to the union of David and Sadie McDaniel; she was the second of five children. The family migrated to Los Angeles, CA that same year, then later moved to Phoenix, IL in 1946 when Bettie was four years old.
After David completed building a home the family moved to Harvey and settled in 1954. Bettie attended Thornton High School and graduated in 1960. She then met her mate for life, Anthony Neal and they were married in March of 1961 and from this union three children were born. Bettie gave her life to Christ over the years and eventually settled to become a member at Christ Universal Temple of Chicago. She held numerous positions over the years one of which she was an administrative assistant for The Mighty Dells of Harvey, IL, she then went on to work for the Harvey Park District as the Board Secretary and Director’s Assistant, just to name a couple.
Betty was an exceptional and an avid gardener, one of the best.
She had a backyard that could have been in any edition of “Better Homes and Gardens” magazine. She took pride in her garden and let everyone know it and never needed an excuse to throw a party or wedding or any kind of function in the yard. Bettie was also known for her fashion sense, she was truly a fashionista, and also what one would call a professional shopper. And one of her other passions was reading books from romance novels to crime dramas and could read an entire book in one day and start a new one the next.
Bettie was preceded in death by her parents and her baby son David Anthony Neal. Bettie quietly transitioned this life on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 2:20 AM to be with the Father.
Her beautiful life will be forever cherished by her loving husband Anthony M. Neal, Sr., her daughter Linda C. (James) Harris, her son Anthony M. Neal, Jr., her stepson Terrence Spivey, her siblings Elnora Harrison, David McDaniel Jr., Donell (Pat) McDaniel, Joyce (George) McDaniel, step-sister Edith Bell, sister-in-law Pearlina Hagler, cherished granddaughter Liana Harris, God-daughter Jacqueline Porter, and a host of (very special to her) nieces and nephews, and very special friends Lavonna Mitchell and Angel Helm, also her honorary daughters Shirley Parham and Loretta Davis.
