Bonnie was born to Bonnie Lou Booker and Lueannie Johnson on August 1, 1946 in Pine bluff, Arkansas. She was affectionally named after her dad. After finishing high school in Arkansas she moved to Chicago.
Once Bonnie relocated to Chicago she met and married Melvin Harris, Sr. She also started a family that consisted of Darryl E. Harris (Tookie), Aislinn J. Harris (Jay), and Marc A. Harris (Boo).
Bonnie first pursued an education to become an elementary school teacher but halfway through decided to change to nursing. Her medical career began at Cook County Hospital. From there she worked at many different hospitals as an agency nurse. But, she ultimately ended her career in retirement from home health care nursing.
Bonnie was proceeded in death by her parents and siblings, which included Ruth Ella Gipson, Alton Gipson (Bud), Audrie Smith, Eddie James Booker (Pete).
Bonnie leaves behind three children: Tookie, Jay, & Boo; Four Grandchildren: Derrick Diggines (Juicy), Chaquidra Harris (Nookie), Darshawn Hardy, and Ameena Harris (Meena); and Two Great-grandchildren: Justin A. Hampton (JJ) & Jihaad A. Hampton. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, & life long friends.
