Pastor Buster Fisher's Obituary
Pastor Buster Fisher Obituary
Pastor Buster Fisher was born on October 29, 1932, to Boley Fisher and Octavia Jenkins Fisher in Marthaville, Louisiana. From this union, Buster was the youngest of 12, his siblings, Jessie Lee Jenkins, Willie Fisher, Lucille Horton, Louise Fisher, Boley C. Fisher, Elma Mobley, Walter Fisher, Octavia Fisher, Clifton Fisher, and Wyoming Fisher. From Boley’s second union to Mittie B. Fisher was born Alzonia Dixon, Rayfield Fisher, Lloyd Fisher, Lavonia Fisher, and Tremmel Fisher. Buster’s family moved to Gary, Indiana, where he would attend elementary school. He later joined the U.S. Army from which he was honorably discharged. He worked at U.S. Steel Corp in Gary, Indiana where he would eventually retire.
While in Gary, Indiana he met and married Josephine Wilson. Through this union 6 children were born, Claude Fisher, Carl Anthony (deceased), Octavia Charisse (deceased), Shrille Fisher (deceased), Avery Fisher, and Napoleon Fisher. Pastor Fisher was a jack of all trades during those years: he was a cab driver, renowed DJ, golden gloves boxer, certified automatic transmission installer, and a Ham Radio Operator in his spare time.
In 1973, Buster met Irene Harrell, and married on April 27, 1974.
Almost immediately after marrying they began to work on their dreams of entrepreneurship. They first started an electronics business, where they traveled extensively selling residential and commercial products. After three successful years, the economy began to take a turn, and Pastor Fisher decided it was time to find something not so seasonal. They decided pest control was the industry, and in 1979, B&I Pest Control was birthed. Pastor Fisher became a licensed technician, and a state certified trainer, while Mrs. Irene managed the business affairs. They would train hundreds of technicians in training classes taught by their daughter, Leslie Houston.
Having successfully managed B&I Pest Control, Irene decided it was time to fulfill her love of caring for children, and they built the legendary, Lupee’s DayCare Center in 1999 in Riverdale, Illinois. They would teach hundreds of children for 19 years. Forever the entrepreneur, Buster would be a mentor to many technicians and business owners deciding to leave Corporate America and take control of their own destiny. He worked fervently in the community providing food once a week to the south suburban neighborhoods, and employing many young African American men.
In 1987, he recognized he had been called into ministry. He would become a licensed and ordained minister under the leadership of Dr. Sammy Davis, at Original Holy Ark in Chicago, Illinois. He would further his biblical knowledge at Moody Bible Institute, and train alongside Pastor Charles Chew at Pleasant Green MB Church.
In 2008, he would become Pastor of Second Baptist Church in Harvey, Illinois, where he would Pastor until March 2019. Pastor Fisher was preceded in death by his father, Boley Fisher; mother, Octavia Fisher; stepmother, Mattie B. Fisher; brothers, Willie M. Fisher, Boley C. Fisher, Walter Fisher, Rayfield Fisher, Tremmell Fisher, and Bobby Fisher; sisters, Lucille Harton, Elma Mobley, Louisa Fisher, Octavia Fisher, and Dora Fisher, and granddaughter, Kirbye Madden.
He leaves many to cherish his memory: wife, Irene Fisher; children, Claude Fisher (Carl, Dion), Avery Fisher (Londyn, Jordayn, Hollyn, Jalen, Ariel), Napoleon Fisher (Nicole, Ronnie, Brigitte, Alexandria, Clara), Leslie Houston (Whitney, JeKori), a special nephew (Cleveland), siblings, Clifton Fisher (Elizabeth), Lloyd Fisher (Shirley), Alzonia Fisher Dixon, Lavonia Fisher, a special great granddaughter, (Lailani) and granddaughter, Olivia. He has a host of great-grandchildren (13), cousins, nieces, and nephews who will cherish his memory forever.
