“A time to be born”
Charlie “Charles” Sanders was the seventh child, born to the late George and Lavada Sanders on January 8, 1949 in Mayersville, Mississippi.
“A time to plant”
Charles attended Henry Weathers Elementary School, in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. He then graduated from Henry Weathers High School in June of 1967. He attended Cahoma Junior College then transferred to Mississippi Industrial College, Holly Springs, MS. Where he received his bachelors degree in education. He later we on to earned his Master’s Degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.
“A time to love”
Charles was smiled upon when he met Shannon Kellogg in the Fall of 1989. They married June 13, 1992. Charles and Shannon formed a bond that they treasured for over 29 years. Through their union, they had 8 children.
“A time to reap”
Charles was a teacher, coach and mentor for 37 years in West-Harvey Dixmoor School District 147 where he retired. He had many hobbies which included fishing, playing cards, Steppin, and playing video games with his wife. He could often be found at home grilling, spending time with family and friends and loving on his grandkids.
“A time to find”
Charles found and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior early in life at Holy Grove M.B Church where he was baptized.
“A time to die”
In October 2017, Charles was stricken with a chronic illness. He not only stayed strong fighting for himself but also for his wife as she had her own health struggles and illness. Charles left us peacefully on May 10, 2019 with his wife holding his hand at home.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lavada and George Sanders, Son Simeon Sanders his brothers and sisters Cora Sanders, Willie Mae Baltimore, Berdell Sanders, T.W. Amos, Robert Johnson, Willie Bea Baltimore and George Johnson.
He leaves to mourn his passing: Wife, Shannon Sanders, Children; Shantelle Kellogg (Randy), Albert Jones (Erika), Christopher Sanders (Carmen), Andrew Blount Jr, Meochia Thompson (Curtis Jr.), Maurice Sanders, and Derrick Sanders; Grandchildren; Sontonio, ShannonRae, Marcus, Disha, Meochia, Randy Jr., Ra’esssa, Maurice Jr., Christopher Jr., and King; brothers and sisters; Johnny Johnson, George (Blanche) Sanders, Georgia Williams, Earnestine (John) Arron, Jean (Henry) Brooks, Levada Peoples, Rosetta (Richard) Hobbs, Edith Johnson, Arnetta Hobbs. And five extended sisters and brothers whom he was raised with Robert Baltimore, John T Baltimore, Marcella Baltimore, Rosie Smith Baltimore, special sister-in laws- Josephine Johnson and Yvonne Johnson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and his loving dog Shadow who referred to as “buddy”.
