Cheryl Holeyfield Obituary
On December 12, 1956, Cheryl Jean Gardner and her twin brother, Gerald Wesley Gardner were born to parents James and Bettie Gardner. It was a Special day for the family, because it was also their Dad's 36th birthday.
In 1975, Cheryl graduated from Simeon Vocational High School, where she Majored in Business Administration. Cheryl began her spiritual walk at 15 years old, when she joined Prayer Garden
C.O.G.I.C. under Bishop John 0. Mason. She was baptized at Roberts Temple in Chicago
shortly thereafter.
Several members of her family followed her lead, they also joined Prayer Garden. She had the joy of singing in the choir with her twin brother Gerald; and her younger sister, Kathy; all while her mother sang in the adult choir, and her dad became the President of the Deacons Board.
On February 14, 1978, Cheryl began her career in state government as a Receptionist in the Governors' Office, she stayed there 6 years. She then moved on to join the Illinois Film Office in January 1984, where she spent the next 26 years until her retirement in 2010. In June 1991, Cheryl met her future husband, Anthony Holeyfield. She soon realized that one of the things they had in common was a solid spiritual foundation, and close bonds with family; they were married on September 17, 1994.
In August 2012, Cheryl rededicated to her relationship with God, and along with her husband, they found a new church home at California Gardens Christian of Love Baptist Church "CG", under Pastor Robert Bond, UL At "CG", Pastor Bond believes "as Christians we should be participators not spectators in our church". Over the years, Cheryl served as a youth leader, youth department director and on the "Love N Action" feeding ministry. Che1yl also worked in the administration office and became a Deaconess when her husband was appointed a Deacon.
Cheryl loved to travel and care for her home. She believed that After God, family is our most important foundation in life. She leaves to celebrate
her life, her Cherished Husband Anthony Holeyfield; Twin Gerald Gardner,
God-sister Jocelyn Hill, 3 (step) Sons, 9 Grand Children and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
