Christine Coleman Lloyd was born June 26, 1931 to the linage of the late Charles and Ernestine Coleman in Robbins, Illinois, where she remained until her death. She was the eldest of ten (10) children. Christine accepted the Lord as her savior and became a member of Union Baptist Church. Later on, she joined Universal Church of God with her entire family under the leadership of Pastor Hortence Johnson. In the early years of the 2000’s she attended services at Abounding Life Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Pastor James Adams. In 2017 she started attending services at Lighthouse Church of all Nations. On October 27, 2018, she became a member/daughter of the church.
When Christine was a young lady she met a young man named Ashley Lloyd who lived across the street who took a great interest in her. On December 2, 1948 at the age of 17, she married the love of her life and remained married to Ashley Lloyd until his death on February 2, 2011. During this union, four (4) children were born Charles, Debrah, Ramona and Ernestine.
In Christine’s lifetime she worked at Lori’s Christian Bookstore, Gately’s Department Store and ran a home daycare. She was very active in the church community singing with Pastor Maceo Woods and playing the piano. Christine wrote two plays: The Master is Comingand The Old Ship of Zionwhich were featured at many churches. Her biggest joy was sewing. She made choir robes and uniforms for church choirs. Christine loved fashion, she was known in the community as a fashion queen with her stylish clothes and hats that she made herself. Christine enjoyed vacations, camping in her Winnebago, picnics and special holidays with her family.
In 2017, Christine was diagnosed with stage four cancer, but this did not stop her. She continued to do all the things she loved to do. Her daughters, Ernestine and Ramona and son Charles became her caregivers. They remained with her until her death.
On Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the comfort of her home and with her daughters, Ernestine and Ramona by her side, Christine went home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, her sister (Bernice) and her brothers (Rudolph and Eugene). Christine leaves fond memories in the hearts of her four Children: Charles (Marva) Lloyd, Robbins, IL; Debrah (Terrell) Brown, Richton Park, IL; Ramona (Willie) Bob, Evansville, IN; Ernestine (Milton) Salley, Robbins, IL; two sisters, Mildred Reeves and Dr. Geraldine Coleman and four brothers, Samuel (Liz) Coleman, Adolph Coleman, Royce (Dorothy) Coleman and Dwight (Cheryl) Coleman; two sisters-in-laws, Minnie Lee Carter and Idella Lloyd and one brother-in-law, Thomas (Nell) Lloyd; nine grandchildren, Sherie (Walter) Graham, Erica (Earl) Sardin Carmen Lloyd, Charles Lloyd Jr., Tiffany (Nathan) Austin,, John Brown, Erica (Darrall) Troupe, Salita L. Brown and Christine A. Salley; tweny-one great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her Lighthouse Church family.
