Dorothy Spears was born on December 19, 1926 in Natchez, Mississippi to the union of the late Jessie and Carlotta West. Dorothy was the oldest of two children. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jessie West, Jr.
Dorothy attended Broomfield High School in Natchez for two years. in 1944, following the death of her father, Dorothy, her mother and brother relocated to Chicago, IL.
In 1946, Dorothy graduated from DuSable High School.
Additionally, she received a certificate from a Chicago business school. In 1947, Dorothy was joined in holy matrimony to the late Archie Spears. Their union was blessed with four children. Their second daughter, Pamela Spears-Wright preceded her in death.
Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Zion Chapel AME in Natchez. The Spears Family relocated from Chicago, IL to Markham, IL in 1959. Shortly thereafter, through baptism, Dorothy became a member of Christ Temple Baptist Church. In her early years at Christ Temple, she sang in the choir and later, for many years, served as the church secretary. Until restricted by poor health, Dorothy was also an active member of the Comfort Outreach Ministry.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, February 22, 2019, Dorothy made her transition to eternal life. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Carlotta Spears of Sammamish, WA and Janis Spears-Alexander (Charles) of Matteson, IL; one son, Christopher Spears (Denise) of McKinney, TX; eight grandchildren: William Taylor (Lynn) of Sammamish, WA; Erika Wright of Calumet City; Charles Alexander, II (Kandis) of Olympia Fields, IL; Erin Wright (Leon) of Markham, IL; Courtney Alexander (Rachel) of Frankfort, IL; Christopher Bryant (Nekia) of Grand Prairie, TX; Cory Spears of McKinney, TX; Brandon Spears of McKinney, TX; a devoted “cousin-niece” Hope Pernell (Mayes); and 15 great-grandchildren.
