Eddie Belle Madison's Obituary
Eddie Madison Obituary
Eddie Belle Madison was born to Zeb Fleming and Fodora Reid “Mama Dora”: on July 15, 1932 in Brownsville, Tennessee. She was the sixth of seven children. The family moved to a home at 374 Leath Street in Memphis, TN; a few years after her birth. She confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in her life at a young age.
Eddie Belle attended and graduated from Memphis City Grammar School and Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis. After high school, she worked at a number of different jobs before leaving home.
On April 23, 1955 she was wed to Walter Louis Madison, Jr.; whose family coincidentally, lived just across the street. The two left Memphis and moved to the west side of Chicago. While living there, they began their family with Eddie Belle first giving birth to a son, Corwyn and a couple years later a girl they named Belinda. Eddie Belle began devoting her life to caring for her children as well as managing her household. It was also during this time they joined Mount Sinai Baptist Church where she served many years on the Nurses Board.
In May 1965 Eddie Belle and Walter bought and settled into their new home in Markham, Illinois. Soon after this move, their third child, Cedric was born. Eddie Belle lovingly turned that house into their forever home.
In 1968 the family joined Christ Temple Baptist Church. Eddie Belle worked diligently, serving in the Comfort Outreach, Prayer Band, Sunday School, and Missionary Ministries. She also served as the First Lady of the Junior Church when Rev. Madison became its Pastor. Eddie Belle, being a longtime resident of Markham, IL, was also active in the Markham Community Block Club when it was formed.
Eddie Belle, having lost her own mother early in life, sought out other “mother figures” within the church and community to minister to and care for. She always had a quiet spirit about her and was very family oriented. She was a strong prayer warrior, and was one of the most giving people one could know. She was not materialistic; nor for that matter ever really wanted a lot. She could be difficult to buy gifts for because inevitably, when given a gift she would think of someone else who could use it more... and she would give it or share it with them. Those close to her knew that she could be stubbornly helpful, always looking for something she could do to contribute.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Walter Madison, Jr.; four sisters: Virginia, Vella, Minnie Lou and Willie Dee; two brothers: Cornell and Herman.
On June 27, 2019 Eddie Belle was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves behind three children: Corwyn (Candace), Belinda Madison-Cannon and Cedric Madison; two grandchildren: Kendall Cannon (Karina) and Cameron Madison; two great grandchildren: Kori Cannon and Karter Cannon; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and neighbors.
