Bishop Eddie Lee Wright, Sr. was born on June 24, l943, in England, Arkansas to the late Floyd Wright (Beverly) and Hazel Williams. Eddie received Christ at the age of 36 and was united in Holy Matrimony to Susan White on January 13, 1979, the couple was married for 45 years.
Bishop Wright and Evangelist Susan Wright were co-partners in spreading the Gospel and the love of Jesus Christ. During the many years of servitude, God allowed the two to travel overseas, and throughout the United States spreading the Gospel.
Bishop Wright attended Coleman High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas from 1958 to 1961, receiving his high school diploma. Bishop Wright would go on to join the United States Army, and he received an Honorable Discharge in 1966.
Bishop Wright was known for his strong work ethic. He began his career at a young age working for the Salvation Army, Agar Harn, he worked as a truck driver, and he eventually retired from the United States Postal Service in 2008.
Bishop Wright was a family man who made sure he always provided for his family by demonstrating a strong work ethic. Despite his busy schedule, he always made time to serve God, and spend time with his family and friends.
Bishop Wright's favorite hobbies were reading his Bible, singing, often referred as sounding like the soulful singer "Sam Cooke". Bishop Wright loved to stay current on the world affairs; he watched the News, and his favorite basketball team, "The Chicago Bulls". He was also an avid movie watcher, he loved to watch karate movies, listening to Quartet music and preaching sermons via the radio. Everyone that knew him knew he loved to make people laugh with his jokes and could often be found, "fixing" something and known as a (handyman). Bishop Wright could talk for hours; and loved having long meaningful conversations with his wife, children and grandchildren.
In the early l990's Elder Wright became a member of Another Chance Assembly Church also known as ACA, Chicago, IL In l998 Bishop Wright continued to fulfill his calling in ministry, and became the Founder/Pastor of New Life Church of the Apostolic Faith, Chicago, IL In 2005, Elder Wright was ordained Bishop
by Apostle IA Anderson DD, Chief Celebrant and pastored for over 30 years; Bishop Wright retired in 2019.
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Bishop Eddie L. Wright, Sr., was called from labor to rest at Advocate South Suburban Hospital, Hazel Crest, Illinois.
Bishop Wright leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Evangelist Susan Wright; one brother, Edward Williams; one sister, Pamela Burnette; his children: Wendell Wilbourne, Pine Bluff, AK, Tonya Mabra, Arlington, TX, Eddie L Wright Jr., Angela Hall (deceased), Mark S. Wright, Valencia Brown (Anthony), Miralca Wright, Venise Smith (Brandon) and Diamond Wright; his three Goddaughters: Kimberly Taylor Osbourne, Terralyn Taylor and Lillie Jones; his beloved Grandchildren: Christian Wright, Alece Brown, Zion Oliver, Avery Wright, Milan Wright, Tarel Johnson, Perriae Wright, Maurice Wright, Katrina Wright, Eries Mabra, Donavan Mabra, Nina Kay Waddell, and Tyrone Simmons; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends.
