Elmer J. Christmas' Obituary
Elmer Christmas Obituary
Elmer J. Christmas Jr. (Chris to friends or Junior to family) was born May 10, 1939 in Unadilla, Georgia to Elmer and Bertha Christmas. The family moved to the Chicago area in 1942 where he attended Francis Parkman Elementary and Parker Pine High School. Shortly after graduation, he took a job with the United States Post Office where he served in a variety of roles for 37 years until retirement.
Chris had many interests and because of his dedication was good at most everything he tried. He enjoyed fishing all over the Midwest by himself or with friends and family. He was an avid league bowler and even had a few perfect games to his credit. Both he and his brother Edward shared a love of photography, even selling photos to the newspaper or working events. Following his parents example, he also enjoyed cooking a good meal and working on classic cars.
While Chris was a bit of a loner, he didn’t hesitate to help a friend. Whether you needed a photographer, a mechanic or just a ride home, he liked being helpful. In fact, when a manager at the post office asked if anyone could give another employee a ride home, Chris volunteered. That employee became Chris’ best friend for 50 years.
Chris departed this world on Sunday, December 2, 2018. He was preceded by his parents and sister Marie. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, a brother, Edward Christmas; two sisters, Mary Hill and Ernestine Christmas, one son, Troy Christmas, one grandson, Kaleb Christmas and a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends
