Gary Gene Murphy's Obituary
Gary Murphy Obituary
Gary Gene Murphy was born on July 23, r96o in LaFayette, Alabama to the late Della-Mae and the late Aaron Murphy. He was one of 6 children. Three of his siblings he were blessed with by his mother. One Sister Lisa Murphy, preceded him in death 6 years ago. At the age of 4, Ga1y and his family moved to Robbins, IL. where he was raised. He and his family soon relocated after that to Chicago, IL. where Gaiy attended the Chicago Public School System. He later graduated from Fenger High School. He later entered into the Chicago State University, where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Geography.
Gary accepted Christ as His personal Savior in his early teen years. One of the churches that played a big part in his life was Fellowship Baptist as He grew up in Chicago. Gary soon developed a Love for music of all types. But Gospel won his heart as he grew up and became a member of the Famous Rev. Clay Evans Singers. And My, how they travel The World; spreading The Gospel of Jesus Christ through song. This traveling, which many Choirs did by Motor Coaches at the time, because Black Churches weren't funded with Mega money back then; began to spark a hobby in Gary, of desiring to drive and see the county by automobile. And anyone that knew Gary, knew He Loved to drive, and wouldn't think twice about doing it. It was nod1ing for Gary to drive down South of The Boarder to see His Family on both sides of His Family tree. His Aunt Dorothy in Anniston Alabama play a big part in that, who didn't mind getting under that wheel also on various occasions.
Gary loved his family. While spending summers in Alabama, he'd often baby-sat his cousin Nellie's kids, which were like nephews to him. This would come as no surprise as Gary even took on his niece and nephew DarLisa and Daron, Sr. as his children after the transitioning of their mother. That was the nurture side in him even as he'd often fuss at his brother Peter like He was that daddy. All his family played a different part in his life, as He'd call to check on them and let them know He Loved them. When you'd see that telephone number pop up, you knew that when you'd put that phone to your ear you'd hear that deep voice with the south draw say," Alieey-Daere..." You also knew when he had something good to tell you when he'd say, "Well-Baaaby" or "Whew-Chiiile". You knew you were in for a good laugh.
Gary didn't mine being the Life of the party either. This came along with his nature. He loved to cook his little specialties for His Biological Family, Church Family, and His Job at the Funeral Home. If you called on him he'd rarely tum you down and would be there to help make your event successful. Ga1y was a proud member of the Greater Harvest Baptist Church of Chicago, known to some as "The Tambourine Church", under The Leadership of Pastor Eric Thomas. When He found out that his LiL-Brother Andre' often tuned into the church's Live strean1, He'd often call him and update him of the Anointed Se1vices d1at he He missed and needed to catch up on. Gary was a member of The Mass Choir, He also was The Director over Men's Ministry and a Member of the Kitchen committee, and if he had a car ride, He was there.
Although Gary in his earlier years out of college served as a Substitute Teach down South; He had several other employment positions in his life that followed, such as a Sprint Agent who in now T-Mobile, Comcast, FedEx, Cage Funeral Horne and some Horne Health-Aid Se1vices. There have been Many friends and loved ones that have gone on to be with The Lord before Ga1y that are missed. And We pray that when he sees them mat He let Them know, that We back here are still holding up the Blood Stained Banner of Christ. And when he last saw Us?... We were on our way, just as soon as God says so.
