James Gavin Obituary
James D. Gavin was born on June 29, 1930 to the late Essie L. and Henry G. Gavin in Bay Springs, Mississippi. In 1954, James married Joy Bell and they had three daughters. James was a devoted husband. His daughters considered him to be the Best Father anyone could ask for. James loved his six grandchildren and great granddaughter.
They called him PaPa, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them.James retired from the Main Post Office in 1986. After retirement, his extermination business occupied his time. He was a member of St. Sabina Church, until he moved to Homewood, Illinois. James was active in the 8200 Block Club. He enjoyed fishing and barbequing on holidays. In his earlier years, he took many road trips to his hometown.
James shared his wisdom and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. His warm smile and unselfish ways will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. James made his transition on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the age of eighty-eight.
The Lord chose on that day to call his beloved son back home to his Kingdom.
James was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Essie Gavin, and his 3 sisters, Annie C. Beavers, Robbie M. Gavin and Mary Lee Gavin-Hughes.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife Joy Bell of 64 years, three daughters, Linda Brown, Debra Gordon ( June Johnson), and Rose Lee (Clifton Winters), six grandchildren, Walter Brown (Keneisha), Shawna Joy X (Landon), Cluet Gordon, Ahmad Lee, Cliffton Gordon, and Westin Brown, one great granddaughter, Kayla Brown, one sister, Mary Beth Rambo (Arthur Ray), one brother, Henry G. Gavin Jr. (Annie), and one sister in law, Erleen Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and close friends.
