Jessie Mae Thomas was born the second child to the union of Justa Williams and Sarah McClain onJanuaiy15,1940, in Mount Andrew, AL
Jessie joined Center Ridge Baptist Church where she confessed Christ at an early age. Her family moved back-and-forth between Alabama and Chicago; and in 1956 she settled in Chicago. In 1960, she was united in holy matrimony to J.L Thomas, Sr. to this union six children were born In 1971, they relocated their family to Robbins, IL
Jessie wanted to further her education, so she attended Moraine Valley Community College; in 1978 she received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. She began an internship with Horace Mann School, where she became a teacher’s aide, and worked until retirement in 2005. In the early1980's she joined Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church She was a faithful member and usher, she later became a Mother of the Church; she was also a member of the Eastern Star since May of 1987.
Jessie enjoyed sewing, doing puzzles, and playing cards with her children She truly loved cooking and baking. She knew how much everyone loved her pound cakes, and that would always make her smile. In her later years
she got a love for talking on the phone. She would provide support if you
needed a shoulder; and she would offer- love if you needed a friend; she was there if you just wanted to talk
Jessie is preceded in death by her husband, JL; her parents, her brother: George, Fletcher, Philman and Acie; and her eldest child, Tony.
Jessie leaves to cherish her memories to her children: JL (Sharen) Thomas, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, Irving (Colleen) Thomas, Sr. of Plainfield, IL, Juavonda Hanis of Robbins, IL, Anthony (Traci) Thomas of Louisville, KY, Stacy Thomas of Racine, WI; her sister, Sarah Williams of Midway, AL; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews cousins, other relatives and friends.
