Joan Estell (Washington) Bragg, daughter of the late Francis and Robert Washington was born June 08, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. Joan was the 2nd born of 12 Children, 2 Brothers preceded her in death; (Charles, Larry Carpenter).
Joan was a product of Robbins, Il. She attended and graduated from Blue Island Community High School. Joan later attended Cortez Peters Business School. Joan worked as a proofer for Spiegel and she later made her career at Standard Bank, until she retired.
Joan and Franklin were joined in holy matrimony and together they celebrated 52 years. To this union two sons were born, Franklin D. Jr., and Brian K. Bragg.
Joan accepted Christ at an early age. Joan and Franklin were a part of the integration of First UMC in Harvey, IL. The church merged with Wesley UMC and Academy UMC and became First Wesley Academy UMC. Rev. Charles Woolery was her Pastor for 13 years. Under the leadership of Pastor Dennis M. Oglesby, Jr. FWA UMC merged with Ivanhoe UMC in Riverdale and became Transformation Community United Methodist Church, Harvey, Il. Joan was a member of this evolving congregation for well over 40 years.
On March 23, 2019, after a long battle with Diabetes and Dialysis, Joan was called Home. She leaves to celebrate her life, her loving and devoted husband, Franklin D. Bragg, her two Loving sons Franklin Jr and Brian Bragg of Harvey, Il. Five sisters Eleanor (Don) Adams, Margaret (Earskin) Leach, Jackie, Marita all from Illinois, Betty (John) Thomas of Henderson Nevada, 4 Brothers; James Carpenter of Oak Park, Il. Robert (Rita) Washington Jr of University Park, Il., Rozell (Gwen) Washington of Riverdale, Anthony Washington, One Aunt; Delores Washington of Harvey, Illinois. She also leaves a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins and many friends, especially her life longtime Friends. Patricia Reed, Neloma Jones and Charlene Hawthorne.
