Johnnie B. Dorsey's Obituary
Johnnie Bell (Hill) Dorsey was born August 26, 1928, in Birmingham, Alabama. She passed away on
Tuesday, January 20, 2026. At an early age, Johnnie confessed Christ and began a lifelong journey of
faith that guided her through 97 blessed and meaningful years.
After relocating to Joliet, Johnnie united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful
and devoted member, serving in the Nurses Ministry until her health no longer allowed her to continue.
Her life reflected unwavering service, deep love, and stead-fast commitment not only to her church, but
to all whose lives she touched.
Johnnie was truly a firecracker— strong-willed, honest, and unapologetically herself. She spoke with
clarity and conviction, saying exactly what she meant and standing firmly on it. She cherished her
family and was always ready with a prayer, a word of wisdom, or timely encouragement. Whether
reminding you that “God always has a ram in the bush,” or warning you “that pink tornado will get you
into a world of trouble,” she met people right where they were—with truth, love, and unforgettable
wisdom.
She lived a purposeful life and proudly wore many titles: wife, mother, grandmother, and great-
grandmother. Her legacy continues through the generations she nurtured and the countless lives she
influenced. Oh, what a blessing, “97” years of life. Truly, a beautiful homegoing; not just a farewell,
but a celebration.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Dorsey; her adopted son, Jonte
Dorsey; parents, Johnny and Lula Hill; her siblings, Thornton Hill, Mattie Lou Cureton, Lizzie
Edwards, Morris J. Hill, and Ruby Mae Baskin.
To rejoice and cherish her memory, she leaves three daughters, Lorraine (Clyde) Jones, Cassandra
Dorsey, and Adraine Dorsey; seven grandchildren: Oscar Jones, Marcus (Adrianna) Travis, Myeshia
(Ibn) Yamini, Charles Lee, Jaszmine Dorsey, Ja Rae Dorsey, and Janiqua Dorsey; along with a host of
great-grandchildren, great-great-grand-children, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
