Josephine Dorsey's life began on November I0, I955, born to the late Georgia Mae and Jesse Dorsey Sr. in a loving home as the sixth of nine children. From a young age, Josephine professed her love for Christ and, along with her family, became a faithful member of Great Hope Missionary Baptist Church. There, she joyfully sang in the choir and
served diligently as the Pastor's Administrative Assistant. Josephine received her elementary education in Robbins, Illinois, followed by,
Eisenhower High School, from which she graduated in I973- She continued her education at Kennedy-King College, earning an Associate's Degree. Never one to stop learning, Josephine furthered her studies at the John Amico School for Nails, Prairie State College (Pharmacy Tech), and Moraine Valley Community College (Theology/Seminary), receiving multiple certificates and diplomas throughout her life.
Her professional journey started in I973 at Illinois Bell as a telephone operator. Through hard work, dedication, and leadership, she rose through the ranks and eventually retired in 2015 from AT&T as a Plant Manager of Infrastructure after an impressive 42-year career. She was also an active member of the Illinois Bell Pioneers, volunteering her time with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and The Habitat Company.
In I992, Josephine joined New Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained an active and devoted member. As destiny would have it, On July 3, I'_;l994, she married Elder Carl Dickerson Sr., and together they were blessed with two daughters, Jovonna and the late Cassia Dickerson.
Josephine's service to her church was extensive and passionate. She was involved in multiple ministries, including the Banner Bearers, Children's Church, TTC, Excel to Womanhood, Sunday School and various choirs. She also was a Deaconess and a Personal Prayer Intercessor for Pastor Beverly LaJoice. For ten years, she and her husband led the Married Couples Ministry, which gave birth to the impactful "Matters of the Heart" outreach. Their ministry extended to the airwaves, as they co-hosted a program on Gospel Radio 1390 AM. Together, they also co-owned and operated Trinity TeleCommunications.
Beyond her spiritual and professional commitments, Josephine was a vibrant socialite. She was a proud member of both the Red Hatters and LOL's Women's Social Clubs. She loved traveling abroad, enjoying cruises, fine dining, and relaxing spa retreats. Known for her elegance, grace, and radiant smile, Josephine had a magnetic personality and a sharp sense of humor that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Josephine was called home to glory on September 30, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Georgia Mae and Jesse Sr.; her eldest brother, Willie Dorsey; her daughter, Cassia Dickerson; and her grandsons, Brandon and Joseph Head.
Josephine leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Elder Carl Dickerson Sr.; her children, Rashita (Asante), Andree (Carl Matthews), Sabrina, Carl Jr., and Jovonna; her cherished grandchildren, Bryce Head III and Addison Manning; great-grandchildren: Byrcen, Bryden, and Brylyn Head; and her loving siblings: Minnie, Bernadine, Georgia Ann, Jesse Jr. (Pam), Lawrence, Sybil (Craig), and Cynthia. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
