Leanna Barnes was born June n, 1941 in Money, MS; she was the fourth child born to Augusta Barnes,
but raised by her grandmother, Edith Fergueson. Leanna is now joining her mother; and her brothers:
Johnny, Melvin, and Bobby; sisters: Louise, and Jewel; her daughter, Mary; and her granddaughter, Deanna all preceded her in death.
Having grown up as a Methodist, Leanna decided to be baptized in 1978 at Joshua Missionary Baptist Church
under the pastor of Rev. Carl White, Sr. Leanna was a good and faithful servant. Leanna was a graduate of Bloom High School; and upon graduating Bloom, Leanna went on to attend Illinois Medical Training Center, becoming a Certified Phlebotomist; as well as attending their Certified Nursing Assistant Program. Leanna went on to work for Saint Francis Hospital, Saint James Hospital, and Oak Forest Hospital until she retired in 2006 after 40 years of service.
Leanna enjoyed life she loved cooking for her family or telling you how to make a particular dish she love, listening to music and has been known for showing off her dance moves, Leanna love helping people and had a heart of gold, but she also was a forced to be reckoned with she didn't mind putting you in your place if you stepped out of line something she has done to all of us at some point, but she loved each of us in her own way was a good and faithful servant and at T45 AM Wednesday, February 19, 2025 she went home to be with the Lord. Her memories will be cherished by her children: Renoita Gayles, Danny Gayles, Spring, TX, Marita Barnes, Triner (Donald) Barnes-Son-ell, Marlene McCall, Ronya Fulgiam, Holly Barnes, Cholly Coyier, and Daiesha Barnes; daughter/niece, Kim Scott, Lansing, MI; Sisters: Edith Sims, Lavaura (Larry) Weaver, Tacaila Hinton, Toni Hinton, and Joyce Qessie) Jones; 24 grandchildren with the oldest being her namesake; 17 great-grandchildren; an abundance of nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, great-great nieces/nephews, bonus daughters: Michelle Short, Katherine "Kat" Dotson, and Brittany Fleming; bonus grandchildren, godson, Pastor Leon White; and her lifelong partner of 58 years, Tom "Tommie" Brooks.
