Leonard Jones Obituary
On November 23, 1940, Leonard Preston Jones was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late William and Mary Jones. Leonard lived and worked for many years as a mail carrier and a teacher and a girls track coach with the Orleans Parish School System.
He was a member of the Upper Room Bible Church and served on the Usher Board in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He was educated in the Louisiana School System and graduated from Joseph S. Clark H.S. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern University.
After Katrina, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois where he married his high school Sweetheart, Elaine Scott. He joined Grace M.B. Church where he was a very dedicated and active church servant. He was a member of the Trustee Board and active with the Evangelism Missions Ministry, the
Brotherhood and the Male Chorus, worked with the Food Pantry and Produce Mobile.
He pursued his passion in History and also received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ashford University in 2015. He was a sports buff and an artist and loved painting, fishing, and golf and specifically loved watching old western movies.
Leonard was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Jones; and daughter, Jaacinda Jones.
Leonard leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Elaine Scott Jones, one son, Leonard, Jr.; two steps sons, Eric Scott of San Francisco and Anthony (Diane) Scott of Flossmoor, IL; six grandchildren: Ariane, Jourdan, Stephen, Stephanie, Aaron and Ava; brother-in-law, Roger (Barbara) James, Codover, TN, Sylvester (Viva) Williams, New Orleans, LA, Larry (Mae) Williams, New Orleans; three sisters-in-law: Juanita of Kissimmee, FL, Gaynell (James), New Orleans, LA and Sylvia Hill, Los Angeles, CA; and one great grandchild and his best friend, Charles; and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
