Lora Cathey Obituary
Lora W. Cathey was born on May 11, 1936 in Marshall County, Mississippi to the late Allean Sholar and Buford Wilson. She was one of eight children born to this union (Ruth Wilson, Lelia Wilson, Willie Ann Jones, Ruby Shipp, Billie Mae Cox, Alonza Jefferson, Alvenis Wilson-Dandridge, and her twin sister Flora Sholar, who preceded her in death. Allean remarried K.C. Sholar, and to this union two children were born (Clara Cathey and Joseph Sholar).
Lora confessed Christ in her life at an early age at Roberts Chapel C.M.E. Church then after moving to Chicago, she became a member of the Sheldon Heights Church of Christ.
She met and married Roosevelt Cathey, Sr. on April 10, 1954 in Hernando, Mississippi and later moved to Chicago, IL. (her husband preceded her in death). Her late husband served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. To this union, ten children were born.
Lora was very active in the community where she served as a surrogate mother to many children in the City of Markham.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Six daughters (one preceded her in death: Gale Denise Cathey); Sharon (Edward, Sr.) Harley, Camille Cathey, Murivell (Andre, Sr.) Harris, Monica (Charles, Sr.) Greenwood, and Tara Cathey; Four sons; Anthony (Carmela)Cathey, Roosevelt (Marya) Cathey, Darrell (Desiree) Cathey, Sr. and Derrick (Donnica) Cathey, Sr.: Twenty-Four Grandchildren, Thirty-Five Great-Grandchildren and Four Great-Great Grandchildren: Six sisters and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
