Margaret C. Cooper, also known as "Gold Baby'' age 93, passed away peacefully at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 12, 1931, in Hazlehurst, MS, Margaret was one of nine children born to Henry and Lilly Calhoun. She was raised in a home full of love and faith, alongside her siblings: Herny Charles Calhoun, Albert Cooper Calhoun, Robert Calhoun, Harold Calhoun, Isaac Calhoun, Porter Calhoun, Richard Calhoun, and her sister, Ma1y Calhoun Beach.
Margaret accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and remained devoted to her faith throughout her life. She served faithfully as secretary at her local church in Hazlehurst and later became an active member and choir singer at Union Evangelistic Baptist Church in Chicago Heights, IL. After graduating from high school in Hazlehurst, MS, Margaret moved to Chicago, IL, where she earned her degree in healthcare. She dedicated many years to serving others as a surgical nurse at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, IL.
In 1950, Margaret met the love of her life, the late Freddie L. Cooper Sr., of Chicago Heights, IL. They were married on February 20, 1954, at Union Evangelistic Baptist Church and remained devoted partners in love, life, and business. Together, Margaret and Freddie raised a beautiful family; the children are: Freddie L. Cooper Jr., Sheldon
A. Cooper, Tawana R. Cooper, Valera D. Jackson (deceased, 2013), Alesha C. Cooper, Patrick Cooper, Dwayne E. Cooper, Sharon Cooper, Josie Cooper, Joseph Cooper, and Terrell Cooper.
Margaret was a woman of many passions. She had a deep love for animals, a gift for cooking, and a talent for crocheting. She enjoyed traveling, listening to music, watching sports, and laughing with loved ones. In 1970, she supported Freddie in operating their neighborhood candy store, and in 1975, the two co-founded F & M Cooper Contractors- a successful business they
built side by side with dedication and determination. She was a vibrant and nurturing presence in the lives other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always full of joy, stories, and wisdom.
Margaret cherished moments spent reminiscing about her childhood and shared her laughter and warmth toward others. Her legacy is one of strengths,
love, family and an unshakable commitment to her faith.
Margret is survived by her children: Freddie L Cooper Jr, Sheldon A Cooper, Tawana R Cooper, Alesha C. Cooper, Patrick Cooper, Dwayne E Cooper (Cherise Cooper), Sharon Cooper· Joseph Cooper, Josie Cooper Justin Redmond Sr.), and Terrell Cooper; her brother: Isaac Calhoun, Porter Calhoun, and Richard Calhoun; het· sister, Maty Calhoun Beach; a loving host of grandchildren: Katina Kem1edy, Freddie Cooper, ill, Kayleigh Cooper Jat Mclean), Connor

presence.
Margaret Cooper touched countless lives with her grace, strength, and unwavering faith. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
