Mary Perry's Obituary
Mary Perry Obituary
Mary Catherine Perry (fondly called "Baby") was born on April 2, 1929, in Elkton, Kentucky to Summerfiled and Alberta Daniel both of whom preceded her to eternal life.
At an early age, she attended Phillips Chapel CME Church and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She attended and graduated from Todd County Training High School in Elkton, KY.
Mary met William Henry Carr and was blessed with the birth of their son, Howard Darnell Carr. She later decided to move herself and Howard to Chicago, Illinois. This is where she met her beloved husband Mr. Perry and soon, they were joined in matrimony.
Mary worked for the Kmart Corporation within the Personnel Department for over 30 years. She continued to work even after retiring at Heinz Drug Store.
After losing her only son Howard and daughter-in-law Sharon at an early age, Mary exceeded expectations by being a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren Nina Perry and Cynthia Perry by providing all the love and support any child could ever need. She always stressed education, saying "what you put in your bank (your head) no one can ever take from you." Her door has always been open for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She helped raise and educate them; always putting their wellbeing first.
Mary was an active member f Saint Matthew Gordon AME Zion Church for most of her life in Chicago. She would later join Allen Metropolitan CME Church as an active member until she became ill in 2021
Mary will always be remembered for her quick wit and wisdom that she shared with everyone. In recent years, she was cared for by her granddaughter Cynthia, who loved her "Nana Perry" and recently honored her with a 95th birthday celebration. Her great-grandchildren Kindra and Jasmine shared in caregiving with Demetrius being her daily care giver to the end. She will deeply be missed as a great mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, sister aunt, and friend. A life truly well lived.
Mary had 6 siblings, James Theopolis Daniel, Calvin Rudolph Daniel, Cora Elizabeth (Daniel) Kenner, John Caldwell Daniel, Juanita (Daniel) Harris, (all preceded her in death), and Thomas Burru Daniel (Gwendolyn).
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, a host of nieces and nephews: Linda (Darnes) Shaw, Debbie (Daniel) Crowder, Dana Daniel, Trena (Daniel) Williams, Portia (Harris) Johnson, William Grant Harris, Cassie Harris, Dr. Karen Gwenn (Harris) Sharber, Alechia Daniel, Vanessa Harris, Steven Daniel, Adrienne (Daniel) Ward, and Thomasina Daniel.
