Maurice Boykin Obituary
Maurice Kenneth Boykin was born August 15, 1957, in Chicago Heights, IL to Rev. Mathew Boykin, Sr. and Mrs. Ora Lee Boykin. Maurice was the fifth of eight children born to this union.
In 1970 the family soon moved to Harvey, IL where Maurice went to Thornton High School, and graduated. Soon after, Maurice had an interest in helping others, he furthered his education at Illinois Commerce Institute where he graduated with a business diploma. Maurice worked for some years at Bernard Mitchell Hospital and Rush Medical Center, Chicago, IL for over 20 years a a unit secretary on 12 Kellogg. Maurice loved working at Rush Musical Center with his co-workers and loved giving of himself to the sick until his health would not permit him to work anymore.
Maurice confessed a hope in Christ at early age, he joined Calvary Baptist Church, Chicago Heights, Illinois. Maurice then moved to Chicago, Illinois where he joined Greater House of Prayer, under the leadership of Prophet L.K. Johnson, until his passing, and then Pastor Galen Leverette where he was a faithful member. Maurice was led by God to join Original New Paradise Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois, where he had known Emeritus Pastor Arnie L. Hodo for many years, but was under the leadership of Elder Leroy Nash, Jr. (Pastor). Maurice served on the O.N.P. Choir and loved to sing “God is My Everything” when his health allowed him to attend church services.
Maurice loved life, loved to dress, and loved to smell good. Maurice never married but cared about others although he was going through things himself. Maurice, affectionately called “Reesey”, loved his family and his spoiled dog “Chase” and brother Charlie. Most importantly, Maurice gave his life to the Lord and served when he could as a faithful servant, until his transition home on 4/30/19 at 2:55 p.m. at South Suburban Hospital with his loving siblings at his bedside.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Rev. Mathew Boykin, Sr.; and Mrs. Ora Lee Boykin; and brother, Virgil Terry Boykin.
Maurice leaves on earth to cherish his memory: brothers: Matthew Boykin Jr. (Ordrie) Richton Park, IL, Rev. John T. Boykins, Lithonia, Georgia, Bernard Boykin, Harvey, IL, Sherman Boykin, Carrolton, GA; sisters: Shirley Lee Boykin, Bloomington, IL and Barbara Ann Boykin, Harvey, IL; aunts: Eloise Cain, Chicago Heights, IL, Alberta Thornton, Demopolis, AL; special cousins: Martha Pogue Bennett, Demopolis, AL, Richards Boykin and Family, Demopolis, AL, Rev. Rita Lyle and Family, The Burrell Family; Special Friend and caregivers: William Harris who was like a brother and gave of his time and friendship for over 30 years, Diane Harris - who was there anytime of the day. The Harris family; Minnie Williams and Jean Hairston - who was like his second mom; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, and of course the dogs: “Chase and Charlie”.
