Michael Donell Gittings was born in Chicago, IL. on November 13,1947 to Percy and Bertha Gittings. Preceding him in death are his parents: Percy and Bertha Gittings; wife, Angela Marie Lane Gittings; three brothers: Willis, Charles, and Rosco; son Michael Jr., and grandson Baby Brandon.
Michael was educated in the Chicago Public School System, graduating from Shakespeare Elementary and DuSable High School. Following High School, Michael worked for U.S. Steel, but eventually his heart settled on woodworking and carpentry. Michael truly enjoyed working on homes, and was skilled at building intricate cars, ships, and model plane collectables.
Michael accepted Christ at an early age, and attended Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. Michael was a man who stood strong on his convictions and beliefs. He valued his community and cherished his family deeply. Michael was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed baseball, but his favorite was the Chicago Bears!
Michael departed this life on November 15, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory to his daughter, Michele Gittings; brother, Harold; sisters: Priscilla and Angela; younger brothers: Brian, Preston, Gentry, and Shannon; grandchildren: Jerome, Kevin, Jazzmin, Ryan, and Khalia; loving granddaughter, Kinyata Butler; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
