Michael L. Hughes, affectionately known as Mike-Mike by his grandkids, went on to the next journey of his life on Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 with his wife of 43 years, Bernita by his side.
Michael was born on July 19, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to William Richard Hughes, Jr. and Ida Wright. He attended Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in Blue Island, IL where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Bernita Bradley and had three beautiful children: Kawanno (KoKo) Hughes, Shurron (Michelle) Hughes and Dana Dawsey (Sidney).
He had eight grandchildren: Justin, Maurio, DeMarcus, Briana, Syriah, Syrena, and Sydnei; and one great-grandchild,Jimaurio. Michael worked 30 years for Allied Tube in Harvey, Illinois as a Security Officer and Emergency Medical Technician. He was a great provider for his family and worked hard to ensure a great life for his family.
Michael is preceded in death by his grandfather, Harrison Wright; grandmother, Ida Wright; father, William Hughes; mother, Ida Hughes and sister, Mona Bratcher.
Michael loved his wife and took his marriage vows to heart. He had a strong bond with his oldest son and enjoyed
spending time and talking with him regularly. He shared the name with Michelle and they shared a special bond in which she was always there when he needed her. He was very proud of his youngest daughter, Dana who shared the same determination, loving spirit and independence as he. He had a very deep fondness for his mother Ida (Bay) whom he admired and loved. He was very close to his siblings and was very proud to walk his youngest sister down the aisle on her wedding day. He was the happiest when he was with family.Michael gave his life to God and was baptized in 1976.
He had a strong love for God and his favorite quote was “God is Love”. Prior to his passing, he recommitted his life to God.
Michael was a generous, loving and kind hearted person that was passionate about his family. Anyone who knew Mike knew that he was an avid Frankie Beverly and Maze fan. He was a very adventurous person and loved to travel, camp with the family and take cruises with his wife. One thing about him was once he set a goal and focused on it, it was as good as done. He was the type of person that always tried to help someone in need.He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone that had a relationship with him.
