Otis Paynes Obituary
On Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 9:15 a.m., Otis Lee Payne transitioned from life in this world to a peaceful life with God. Otis Lee Payne was born July 17, 1934 in Itta Bena, Mississippi to Otis Payne and Beatrice Parker. Both parents preceded him in death.
Otis attended Sunday school and church at an early age. He accepted Christ as his Savior. As a teenager Otis worked on the farm. During this time he had a terrible accident. He fell off the tractor and hit his head and cracked his skull. He was very fortunate to survive.
He met and married Marvella and they moved to Chicago in 1955. Soon after, they started a family. They had five children, Anthony, Don Terry, Tyrone, Maurice and Vanessa. From this he had five grandchildren: Stephen, Anthony, Byron, Courtney and Tyrone. He also has six great grandchildren.
After a number of years together Otis and Marvell divorced. He later married Eula Stephenson. This union lasted until Eula’s death. Otis Payne worked for North Pier Terminal in various positions for many years before retiring.
Otis was preceded in death by three brothers: William, Nathaniel, and Rocco; one sister, Lucille. Otis leaves to cherish his memory brothers: James (Eva) Payne and Ernest Payne; his daughter Vanessa, sons: Maurice and Don Terry, Anthony, Tyrone (deceased); five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; half sisters: Earlene, Nadine, Maple, James, Otis and a dear friend Joyce.
Due to an illness Otis lived in Symphony Nursing Home. He was grateful for all the visits, prayers, phone calls, and care that he received during this time from so many family and friends.
