Shirley Marie King was born January 21, 1963, in Chicago, IL. to Pinkey Mae King and Jesse Willis; both of her parents preceded her in death. Shirley was the third child born of five siblings to Pinkey Mae King: Larry King, Veta, King, Shirley King, Allen Ray King, and Betty King. Her four siblings: Veta King, Evette Willis, Doris Willis, and Allen Ray King; as well as one granddaughter, preceded her in death.
Shirley accepted Christ at an early age; she chose as her church home, True Vine Missionary Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Steven D. Lewis Sr. Shirley attended Lincoln Elementary School in Dixmoor, IL from 1968-1974; Junior High at Marcin Luther King Junior High School in Dixmoor, IL. 1974-1980; and she also attended Thornton High School in Harvey, IL. from 1981 until graduating in 1985.
After graduating from high school, Shirley attended Ivy Tech College in East Chicago, Indiana where she received her Certification in Culinary and Food Preparation. Shirley worked at Walman for a period in the early 2000s. After leaving Walman, she began employment at Sc. Marks Baptist Church's school as the Head Chef
Shirley didn't allow any disrespect towards her or anyone else in her presence; she would put anyone in their place who cried. Shirley had a big warm heart, and as the great chef she was, she would feed anyone in need of a meal. She was the life of the party and loved her barbeques; Shirley also loved some juicy gossip.
All who knew Shirley loved her. She leaves to cherish three sons: Leon King, Demar King, and Shaquille King; Five grandchildren: Jour"Nee King, Soniya King, Milani King, Ezra King, and Samira King; Five brothers: Larry King, Carl Willis, Sedric Willis, Nathaniel Willis, and Terrell Stewart; Four sisters: Albercca Thomas, Betty King, Carolyn Vaugh, and Nikki Jeffries; Nieces: Belinda Walker, LaShonda King, Latasha King; Nephews: Rev. Charles King, Bobby King, Larry Smith, Ivory King, and Neanco Collins; Aunties: Alice King; Louise King-Elston/ Jimmy Elston, Ida Mae Dodd/Erroll Dodd, Annie King-Ware/William C. Ware and Uncle: Jesse King/Sherice Archibald-King; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
