Walter Gregory Bluett was born June 14, 1942 in Deerbrook, MS. to Dock Bluett
and Mary Will Mickens. Walter was the oldest of the two children. His sister Sally Ivy preceded him in death. Walter acknowledged and accepted Jesus Christ at an early age.
Walt attended CVS highschool in Chicago. Shortly after graduation, in 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Private. His service included assignments at Fort Leavenworth and Fort Knox, as well as a tour of duty in Germany. Following his service in the Army and various other jobs, he secured a position at Acme Steel where he worked for 30 years. Some of his responsibilities included repairing railroad cars, train rails, and performing other mechanical tasks. During this period, he also served as Chairman of the Safety Committee.
Walt loved attending gatherings and parties with his family, friends and acquaintances. He also liked just spending quiet weekends listening to his stepping music, dancing, joking & teasing around, long drives in the early mornings to check up on friends in South Chicago.
Walt was joined in matrimony to Yvette Sanders in December 2004 in Chicago. They met in 1995 and shared a joyous and happy marriage of 21 years. On Tuesday March 25, 2025, Walter peacefully made his transition.
Walt will be forever remembered by his loving wife, Yvette; his children: Tifani (husband Vincent}, and Travita Thomas; son, Jarrett (mother, Carolyn) stepson, Michael (Yvette}; his grandchildren: Arielle, Amir, and Ameera; his great-great grandson, Izreal; nieces: Paula Ivy, (Anita Ivy and Ben Ivy preceded him in death}, and Diamond (Muff); his nephews: Andre, Jeremy, and Dravon; some, but certainly not all of his closest friends: Bobby June, John Shannon, Sam Thornton, Carl Bruce, Alonzo King, Carl Fairley, LaVerne Pettis, Bill Alexander, Lester House, Bob Gilmore, Ed Barnes, Fred Hamer, Jesse Maddin, John Rutledge, Willie Bacon, and Ron Buchanan; and other numerous cousins and friends.
